27th Annual Space Coast Chess Festival

Evan Dyson

WELCOME BACK CHESS PLAYERS!!

After a two year hiatus due to COVID, the Space Coast Chess Foundation is delighted to welcome you to the 27th Annual Space Coast Chess Festival!! Approximately 200 players, including FIDE titled players from the International Grandmaster level down, are playing in what we expect to be our biggest and best Chess Festival ever. The tournament organizers have worked diligently to provide an outstanding chess vacation for you and your family.

Your organizers have endeavored to make the Space Coast Open more than just another weekend chess tournament. Rather, it is a true Chess Festival. Besides the Open, with one of Florida’s largest prize funds, there are a Blitz Tournament, Grandmaster lectures, and a book and equipment concession. This year the top six boards will be broadcast worldwide on FollowChess, and WGM Sabina Foisor will provide commentary on Twitch.

The Chess Festival and tournament are sponsored by the Space Coast Chess Foundation, a 501(c)3 tax exempt charitable corporation. The Foundation is looking to support our future endeavors through significant corporate sponsorship, raising the bar for local scholastic chess activity and enabling us to move this tournament up to a whole new level in the future. Plan on attending next year’s event – it will be bigger and better than ever! Please recognize the wonderful financial support of our sponsors, listed on the next page. All proceeds from the Festival, net of expenses, will be used to further chess in Brevard County through the Space Coast Chess Foundation.

The Space Coast offers a plethora of diverse activities for you and your family. In addition to our pristine beaches and the Hotel’s pool and other amenities, many attractions are nearby, including the Kennedy Space Center, the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, the Brevard Zoo, and numerous ecotourism activities (guided kayak tours in the Indian River, airboat rides). Ron Jon’s Surf Shops is one of Brevard’s iconic attractions and is open 24 hours a day. This weekend the Melbourne Arts Festival will take place at Wickham Park, about a 10 minute drive from the hotel.

If we can be of any assistance to you during your visit, please seek one of us out. We want to make your participation in the Space Coast Chess Festival an experience that you will recall with pleasure for many years.
